How to reduce noise in the office?

Noise in the office is undoubtedly one of the biggest nightmares of every employee and employer. Reduced efficiency, lack of focus, irritability and even health problems are certainly not conducive to productive work. In addition, regulations need to be complied with, which set specific requirements and acceptable noise levels that should not exceed 65 dB.

How do we meet the requirements of office space users and the regulations in force, while ensuring an attractive office design at the same time?

Office noise - standards and permissible noise levels in the office working environment

Office spaces, like other working environments, require that employees are provided with conditions that are safe for health and life. Meeting these conditions is intended to provide protection against a range of different types of hazards, the most important of which are:

  • physical ones,
  • chemical ones,
  •  biological ones,
  •  psycho-physical ones.

Noise in the office is a physical hazard, the protection against which is ensured by the Polish Standard PN-N-01307:1994 "Noise. Noise limit values in the working environment. Measurement requirements”.

According to this standard, the noise level should not exceed 55 dB in administrative rooms, design offices, theoretical workspaces, data processing and other rooms with similar purposes. In spaces to which third parties (e.g. customers) have access, such as secretariats or service offices, the noise level must not exceed 65 dB. So how can office spaces be protected so that office noise standards are met?

An acceptable noise level in the office can be ensured by... GLASS

Modern interiors with a style reminiscent of industrial or branch spaces are very popular nowadays. Glazing, which adds a modern touch to interior design, not only guarantees the attractive appearance of a space, but also provides it with adequate light level. When deciding to use this material in an office, the question arises as to whether it will adequately soundproof the spaces where employees will be present on a daily basis. The answer is YES! A sound barrier such as, for example, a frameless door or a wall made of glass, is characterised by its high performance due to the use of laminated glass with appropriately selected parameters. In addition, it is a safe glass, and the strength it offers makes it suitable not only as a decorative element for the interiors, but above all as a structural element of buildings or even entire façades.

Glass houses and skyscrapers - how to meet office noise standards?

Increasingly frequent and longer stays at work require suitably adapted office spaces, not only in terms of lighting. Properly soundproofed office spaces mean better employee well-being and productivity.

Construction glass is safety glass; reliable laminated glass is available from Wutkowski, a glass manufacturer and distributor. Not only does it guarantee high durability and daylight permeability; laminated glass with appropriately selected parameters is an effective barrier protecting the users of a glazed building from outside noise. As we are aware of the fact that it is sometimes difficult to take our word for it, we encourage you to take a look at our top project - our glass headquarters!
