Glass painting - functionality and aesthetics in modern designs

In today's architecture and design, glass is undergoing a real revolution. What once served the function of illuminating rooms is now becoming a fully-fledged decorative and structural element, offering almost unlimited design possibilities. At Wutkowski, with over 20 years' experience in glass processing, we understand this transformation very well. We specialise in innovative glass painting technologies: enamelling with ceramic paints and painting with water-based varnishes, providing solutions that are not only visually stunning but also meet the highest technical standards.

We paint glass using 2 types of paints

1.       Enamelling – uses mineral ceramic paints that bond permanently to the glass surface during the toughening process, thus creating a durable and resistant coating. It is ideal for interiors where resistance to scratches and chemical resistance are important. Once toughened, the glass cannot be further processed.

2.       Varnishing – in this method, we use water-based varnishes or chemically cured paints, which allow further processing of the glass, such as cutting or grinding.

Types of paints used for painting glass

The first of our methods is enamelling, using mineral ceramic paints. During the toughening process, at temperatures exceeding 600 °C, the ceramic paint fuses with the glass to form an extremely durable and resistant coating. This solution is ideal in areas where the glass is exposed to mechanical and chemical damage. Enamelled glass retains its properties for decades without losing its colour even when exposed to intense UV radiation.

The second method is varnishing using water-based varnishes or chemically cured paints. This technology, although somewhat younger, offers incredible flexibility in design. Glass painted in this way can be further processed – cut, ground or drilled – even after the colour has been applied. This opens up entirely new possibilities for designers, making it possible to implement even the most complex designs. An additional advantage is the extensive colour palette, ranging from muted shades to vibrant, saturated colours.

Paint application technologies

In our company, the glass painting process is a true art, combining traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology. We use two advanced paint application techniques. Roller painting, carried out on a specialist production line, allows us to achieve perfectly uniform coverage of the entire glass surface. This method is particularly appreciated in template production, where colour uniformity is crucial. The entire process takes place in a specially constructed roller coater, which guarantees the high quality of the painted surface and ensures colour repeatability even in large-scale production.

Screen printing, on the other hand, opens up a world of almost unlimited design possibilities for us and our customers. This technique allows the creation of both simple geometric patterns and complex graphics. The paint is applied to the surface using a screen on which the image is reproduced. The matrix is prepared according to the shape, size and pattern. This is the ideal solution for design projects where the glass is intended not only to have a utilitarian function, but also to be a true work of art.

Pain application techniques

● Full-surface roller painting – allows the entire surface of the glass to be precisely and uniformly covered with paint, guaranteeing excellent quality.

Screen printing – a technology which allows patterns to be applied and also the whole surface to be covered. This offers the possibility of decorating glass in both small decorative forms and larger architectural design projects.

Versatile use in modern architecture

Painted glass is a material that is used in virtually every element of modern architecture. In interiors, it works well as a material for the fronts of kitchen furniture, where it not only adds elegance, but also ensures ease of cleaning. Increasingly, architects are also choosing it as an alternative to traditional wall coverings – painted glass creates spectacular panels that can cover entire walls, giving the interiors a modern, minimalist look.

In office spaces, our glass is used to create designer partitions. Semi-transparent or fully opaque, as required, they provide an adequate level of privacy while not taking away any visual space. On the exterior of buildings, painted glass can be used as a façade element, significantly contributing to the aesthetics of the building.

Quality and individual approach

At Wutkowski, we treat every project as a unique challenge. Our team of experts, consisting of experienced technologists and designers, carefully analyses the customer's needs and selects the optimum technological solutions. The process begins with a detailed consultation, during which we learn about the customer's expectations, the specifics of the project and the conditions in which the glass will be used. On this basis, we prepare technical proposals, often creating samples or even prototypes, which allow the customer to see the final effect before the actual production begins.

Thanks to our advanced machinery, which is regularly upgraded, we are able to carry out even the most demanding and complex projects. Every stage of production is subject to rigorous quality control.

Sustainability and innovation

At Wutkowski, we not only create beautiful and functional products, but we also care about the environment. Our production processes are optimised for energy efficiency and the water-based paints we use are environmentally friendly. We have been constantly investing in research and development, looking for new solutions that will allow us to respond even better to the needs of the market and of our customers.
